I don’t know when it first struck me that my computer seemed to be getting slower and slower as time went by. I had purchased it new about a year before and was very pleased with the speed and general performance it possessed. It had a great Intel Duo Core processor and 3 gigabytes of RAM memory. It was indeed a fine machine and I enjoyed its speed and smooth surfing of the internet. I think it was about a year later that I first realized that my machine had definitely slowed down a lot and was suffering from the odd freeze up. Sometimes I had trouble at startup and would have to shut it down and begin again. It was simply no longer the fast smooth machine it had once been.
I read what I could,on the web, about slow operation of a computer and what to do to remedy it. Adding more memory would probably help they said. So I added another gigabyte of RAM which I purchased on the internet, and followed instructions to install it myself. It was a pretty simple job actually. You just have to be sure you get the right kind of RAM memory that is shown in your computer manual. Sad to say this seemed to make little difference to performance of the computer.
Another recommendation was to remove from the hard disc, any programs you were not using. This can be done by uninstalling the program using the uninstall function which all computers have. Or alternatively you can move the program to an external storage medium such as a flash drive or external hard drive. I went through the programs list shown by the uninstall function, and removed several programs which I had downloaded but found no use for. A couple of them were hogging nearly a gigabyte of space between them.
This left quite a bit of free space on my hard drive but again I saw no noticeable improvement in performance of the machine. Then I found some articles about repairing the registry on PCs. The registry is a mega data file which is on every Windows PC and is used by the operating system to access files needed to run the computer and programs you have installed on it. The registry can become totally overloaded with useless material which takes up a lot of space, and makes it difficult for the operating system to locate the files it needs to run the machine. This results in serious slow down and poor performance in the computer.
There is a function called REGEDIT installed on all windows machines precisely for the purpose of cleaning useless files from the registry. The only trouble with this is, that unless you know a lot about computers and what files must not be removed from the registry, you can cause big problems. If you remove an essential file your computer may in fact cease to operate completely. However the solution, which I fortunately found, is that there are a number of sites on the web, from which you can download a registry repair utility to clean your registry quickly and easily. You don,t have to do anything. You simply download the registry repair tool and put it to work.
First you will be offered a free scan of your registry to see what problems exist. Then you will be shown a report on the unwanted material in your registry, which should be removed. Remove it yourself if you have the skills needed, or the registry repair tool will do it for you for a reasonable fee. By the way be very careful if you decide to try a “free” registry repair tool. Most of them are not free and will end up costing you money. None of them do anything like as good work as the tool we use.
I spent considerable time checking out the registry cleaners which were available and finally chose one program which according to all reports was superior to the others in the number of problems it found and quickly eliminated. This tool has proven very satisfactory and I have it installed on all of my computers, for regular maintenance and cleanup. It keeps performance at its best. It has been a real gem in keeping my computers free from registry problems, so that they run smoothly at full speed. I would absolutely recommend everyone who uses their computer a lot, to down load a really good registry fix like this and use it at least once a month. It is like magic in turning a slow machine back into a fast smooth operating delight to work with.
